Our History

History

Newquay AFC Minis was established in 2009 when the two youth clubs in the town, Atlantic Porth and Newquay Youth Centre, merged to come under the overall umbrella of Newquay AFC.

The Minis club was founded and successfully run by our previous Chairman Jim Hilton. The aim was to introduce football to children regardless of ability in a fun and safe environment. The children came and progressed in the game but interacted and socialised with others building relationships and confidence along the way.

Jim and Andy Miller, also a previous Chairman of the youth club, headed up and created the Newquay AFC Mini’s format as it is today. The success of the mini club grew quickly over the first few years and with the help and commitment of all the committee members, coaches, helpers and young coaches over the years it has meant that the club still thrives today. The minis has provided a natural progression from the Saturday morning club to playing for one of the 25+ teams the youth club has to ultimately playing adult football for the men’s team.

In addition, it has been an excellent platform for promoting and developing young coaches, many involved in Sports Leadership or Duke of Edinburgh, and their help has been invaluable over the years and without this running the minis wouldn’t be possible.

The ethos remains the same to the present day and we will continue to work hard to try and provide and improve the provision of football to all who come.
