Match report. Newquay AFC Youth U11 vs Grasshoppers Youth U11
Newquay AFC Youth U11’s played a thrilling match on 18th Oct, away in Truro against our friends from Grasshoppers Youth U11’s. Conditions were fantastic, the pitch looked excellent and the team were buoyed by a full squad available for the first time this season. We even managed to get a half-decent team photo of the boys in their kit, kindly sponsored by Micro DIY and Cornwall Timber Build.
Led out by captain for the game Igor, the boys applied plenty of early pressure on our hosts. We have been working really hard on the physical corner of the FA Four Corner player development model and the defence, marshalled superbly by Harry, Zack and Will, stood up to some fierce and prolonged pressure throughout the first half, with some fantastic tackles and athleticism from both teams.
Having improved our mastery of the ball over lockdown, it was fantastic to see the boys playing out from the back and then through the thirds so confidently. With plenty of positive forward passing into River, Igor and Frankie from midfielders Theo, Finley, Alfie K, Elliot and Marcin throughout the game, we created lots of good goalscoring opportunities. At the other end our goalkeeper Jack made some flying saves, his distribution and decision-making from goal-kicks even more impressive.
Player of the match today however, went to Alfie H. In only his second game for the team he epitomised everything the coaches have asked for; great work rate, brave in possession and positive out of possession. Our goals today came from Frankie, Finley and Alfie K!
An excellent performance from both teams who were a real credit to the spirit of the game, our thanks to all at Grasshoppers for being such brilliant hosts, we look forward to welcoming you to Newquay!
